Termites can’t hear but they can feel vibrations so some species will make a sound we can hear when they are threatened or disturbed. It sometimes confused as a chewing sound however it is actually the termites communicating with eachother by banging their heads against the walls of their tunnels. Termites will not always make this sound and as they are master hiders they can go undetected for weeks, months, sometimes a year. As your house insurance policy does not protect against termite damage it is worth protecting your home against the threat of future attack.
